archipelago will design the new Ghent University GAINS cleanroom

GAINS cleanroom is an extension for the existing Ghent University cleanroom building at Tech Lane Science Park. The new building will accommodate research & training facilities (semiconductor cleanroom, biolab, meeting space) and support co-creation between UGent researchers and industry.

Research in the cleanrooms will focus on the integration of photonic chips with electronics and microfluidics to develop the digital hardware of the future.

The layout of the rooms was optimised by clustering processes, flows and microclimates.

The modular design allows cleanroom ‘bays’ to easily slide into the building’s structure. The building can eventually be expanded and its technical capacity increased. The energy consumption of high-tech techniques is carefully monitored and consumed energy is recovered to a maximum extent.
