Greenpeace Belgium HQ is completed

Once an organ atelier, now the offices for Greenpeace Belgium – a low-tech, sustainable work environment for a dynamic and forward-looking organisation.
The main driver behind the design process is ‘sufficiency’. This means that we look first at what is available, in terms of spaces, structure and energy, and then look at strategies to use ‘just enough’ for the specific Greenpeace activities: working, meeting, eating, making, climbing.
The choice to preserve is critical for the mitigation of embodied carbon, but it also challenges us to play out the phenomenon of incremental bricolage and uncover a great diversity of spaces. Throughout the project we create an elaborate sequence of indoor and outdoor spaces, public and private areas and more or less conditioned interior climates. In this way, we want to turn low-impact environmentally in high impact architecturally.
