Launch of Buur&Berg

The new residential and care project “Buur&Berg” in Sint-Truiden was presented to local care partners and the press on 18 June. Buur&Berg is the result of an extensive preliminary process that started as a pilot project called “Invisible Care”, launched by the Flemish Minister for Health and the Flemish Government Architect, in which we sought an innovative use for the site within the “historical continuum” of Sint-Truiden as a care-friendly city.
The care programme took shape step by step during this process, thanks to a growing understanding of the care needs in the region and the workings of the local care partners.
The result is a project with a unique combination of functions, ranging from 135 homes with a diverse range of housing options to homes for people with intellectual disabilities, a residential care centre, a short-stay orientation facility, a daycare centre, a local service centre, various day workshops and a number of neighbourhood support commercial spaces.
The old Sint-Anna hospital site is thus being transformed into an innovative residential and care project in the heart of Sint-Truiden. Here, we are interweaving living with meeting, support and community life. The design team, consisting of archipelago, a2O and NU architectuuratelier, wants to work with Kairos and the various care partners to design a neighbourhood where collective care and collective space enhance the quality of life for everyone, at every stage of life.
