Les Marronniers psychiatric hospital – competition won

The team led by archipelago architects and AAdd has been chosen to design the new secured section of the psychiatric hospital of Tournai (CRP Les Marronniers).

The programme aims at building a new 270-bed infrastructure including a new entrance for the psychiatric hospital and spaces for communal activities. In their approach based on circular economy, the team also proposed to repurpose some of the old buildings as an infrastructure intended for the professional rehabilitation of patients, as well as a complete landscaping renewal of the site.

The international competition was organised by the Cellule architecture from the Wallonia-Brussels Federation. According to Olivier Bastin, member of the jury: “the project does not offer a system, but a spatial form which opens to dialogues thanks to the overall transparency balanced by the care given to the intimacy of each cell, or to the proposed multipurpose spaces placed where the wards meet, or thanks to the gentle openings towards the landscape offered by very sensible non orthogonal orientations.”
