Flexibility in service of the new world of work (NWoW)
The ground floor is largely open to the exterior gardens, so we dedicated it to communal activities. It houses a training centre, a restaurant and a space devoted to sport and wellness. Offices occupy the two upper floors, linked by a central double staircase that can be converted into an auditorium.
The office spaces are divided into “studios” of a dozen workstations, suited to various different activities: office tables, spaces for reflection, alcoves to work in privacy. People can move around and find the place best suiting their current task. At the heart of the project, the “rambla” crosses all the levels and brings together meeting rooms and social spaces. The modular structural frame of the levels, clear of any columns, offers total freedom in any future reorganisation.
The metaphor of the tree
We designed a building whose envelope and structure benefit from natural renewable energy sources, including solar and geothermal. We thought of a tree – anchored in its landscape, it draws energy from both the earth and the sun. This approach has shaped the aesthetics: the roofs that host photovoltaic solar panels are extended at the front to connect floors; the columns of the concrete structure draw geothermal energy from the ground and rise to the roof.
We continue the metaphor in the application of the NWoW concept in interior spaces. The “rambla”, the beating heart of the project, is the space where all the departments of the company converge, like the trunk of a tree. It is an open place, a space for exchange and a change of pace. From there the studios spread like branches housing the different activities of the company, all the way down to individual workstations. Mezzanines link the three levels of the building, promoting contact and broad vision.

Respecting the natural landscape
The building rests on a high point of the ground, leaving space for a car park in the basement. Working with the natural slope of the land in this way greatly reduced earthworks. We have mitigated the visual impact of outdoor car parks by installing them in successive terraces on the slope. The flow of rainwater is diverted through a network of planted valleys that join a body of water below.
The gardens extend between the building’s wings, linking interior spaces with the distant landscape. Terraces on the ground floor and upper storeys offer expansive panoramic views. The patios are visible at all times when walking through the building, and become intuitive spatial landmarks.
